Eramet declares force majeure at Senegal mineral sands mine following a fire
The fire, which resulted in the shutdown of the WCP, was extinguished on the same day, with technical investigations under way to determine the cause of the fire and to assess the conditions of the affected infrastructure.
Eramet points out that the shutdown of the WCP necessitates the suspension of operations across the EGC site for an extended period.
In addition, the company has suspended its 2026 production guidance for heavy minerals concentrate (HMC), pending the outcome of a more detailed assessment of the impact of the fire. Eramet had previously targeted production of more than 900 000 t of HMC for this year.
