Govt to establish gold processing plant in Mumbwa

The Ministry of Mines has identified Mumbwa district, Central province, as a key area with potential to contribute to the country’s gold reserves.
Government has since bought a processing plant which will be set up in the area in order to monitor the retail value chain of gold being extracted from the mines.
Mines Permanent Secretary, HAPENGA KABETA says the development will curb the smuggling of gold from Mumbwa and out of the country.
Dr. KABETA said this when he addressed hundreds of miners in Nangoma constituency, who were affected by the closure of Lwili Mine 2 weeks ago due to safety concerns and illegal activities.
