Eight arrested for R4bn diamond investment scam
The Hawks in the Northern Cape have arrested eight people alleged to have been involved in a diamond investment scam of more than R4 billion since 2019.
The suspects include a couple with the husband suspected to have been the mastermind behind the scam.
It has been widely reported that controversial diamond dealer Lous Liebenberg and his wife, Dezzi, are said to have been among those arrested in Gauteng on Tuesday evening.
The Hawks arrested the suspects in Gauteng and North West.
Hawks spokesperson Philani Nkwalse says more arrests are expected.
"The suspects are expected to appear in Bronkhospruit Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, on charges which include but not limited to fraud, money laundering, theft and racketeering."
