This was discussed at the Investing in African Mining Indaba which was held earlier this month. Jan Morrill, Mining Programme Co-Director, Earthworks, stated that mining companies have to acknowledge responsibility for the harm they create.

She said there’s a need to identify who’s capable, and communities need to be engaged and get access to independent technical experts who can educate them about the impact of mining.
