UAE and Angola Team Up for Major Desalination Project
In a significant move towards enhancing water security in Angola, AMEA Power, a leading renewable energy company based in the UAE, has signed a Cooperation Agreement with Cox and Angola’s Ministry of Energy and Water (MINEA).
The project aims to construct a large seawater desalination plant on the Mussulo Peninsula, with a capacity of 100,000 m³/day.
The partnership, supported by strong UAE-Angola relations, signifies a transformative step in providing sustainable water solutions to approximately 800,000 residents. The project will be executed through Water Alliance Ventures, a joint venture between Cox and AMEA Power, leveraging Cox’s innovative technology and AMEA’s local expertise.
The USD $200 million project will be constructed in two phases, each creating significant employment opportunities. Phase one construction is set to begin after technical and environmental studies, with commissioning slated for Q2 2028. This venture not only aims to improve water access but also complements public initiatives addressing Luanda’s water infrastructure challenges.
