Senegal, DP World Sign Amendment to Advance Ndayane Port Project

By: Energy capital & power

Senegal and Emirati ports operator DP World have signed an amendment for the construction of the deep-water port at Ndayane, aimed at accelerating development and securing financing for the project.

The amendment includes the construction of common maritime infrastructure, a shift from earlier arrangements. Officials said this change is intended to streamline project delivery and ensure access to necessary funding. The port is expected to be operational by 2028.

Located about 50 km from Dakar near Blaise Diagne International Airport, the Ndayane port is designed to handle some of the largest container ships in the world. Phase one of construction includes an 840-meter quay and a 5Km dredged channel, with capacity to process up to 1.2 million twenty-foot equivalent units annually. A planned second phase will extend the quay by 410 m and further deepen the channel.

In addition to container handling, the Ndayane port project will integrate logistics and industrial facilities, including a special economic zone and areas for warehousing and distribution.

The Ndayane port project represents an overall investment of 700 billion CFA francs, with DP World financing the majority through a public-private partnership.
