Saudi Arabia’s AMAK claims finding 11 million tones of gold, other mineral resources

By: The Siasat daily

Almasane Alkobra Mining Company (AMAK), a leading Saudi Arabian mining operator, has announced the identification of approximately 11 million tonnes of potential economic mineral resources within an exploration license in the Najran region. According to disclosures on the Saudi Stock Exchange (Tadawul) and the company's LinkedIn page, the resources include gold, copper, zinc, and silver ores.

AMAK commenced exploration immediately after receiving the license in September 2024. An intensive drilling program, launched in February 2025, has so far covered less than 10 percent of the licensed area, with over 27,000 meters drilled. The company reported that early assessments indicate strong potential for additional resources as work continues.

In an interview, CEO Jeffrey MacDonald-Day stated that the discovery aligns with AMAK’s long-term strategy to expand its contribution to the Kingdom’s mining sector. He noted that with only a small portion explored, resources are expected to increase to about 20 million tonnes, which confirms the company's investment plan and ensures operational sustainability. MacDonald-Day added that this growth will lead to increased investment and factory expansion to significantly boost production.

The company also announced it was granted a new 10-year gold exploitation license for the Katina site, reinforcing its growth strategy. Further geophysical surveys and drilling are planned for 2026, with a JORC-compliant resources report expected in the second half of the year.
