Saudi Arabia Completes Grid Connection of 7.8 GWh Battery Energy Storage Project
Saudi Arabia has completed the grid connection of its landmark 7.8 GWh energy storage system, a project set to become the world’s largest operational battery energy storage system. This development marks a major milestone for renewable energy deployment in the Middle East. The project, which is spread across three sites in the southwestern region, will support the integration of renewables and is expected to meet the annual electricity needs of approximately 400,000 households.
The project is aligned with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 goals and supports the global transition toward clean energy. The equipment provider, Sungrow, manufactured and delivered more than 1,500 PowerTitan 2.0 units within a highly challenging timeline. The company utilized an all-in-one AC-DC block design, which integrates multiple components to reduce on-site installation time, and deployed a dedicated local service team in Saudi Arabia for support.
