RAK International Airport Becomes First in Middle East and Asia to Deploy Cop28 Tech

As a critical hub for Ras Al Khaimah’s tourism and economic development, RAK Airport is expanding with a strong focus on sustainability. The integration of DYNAES’s system follows the airport’s participation in the Municipality’s Retrofit Energy Programme in 2023.

Reducing Energy Demand in Cooling Systems

Cooling infrastructure is among the highest consumers of energy in airports. Consultants ARTELIA Airport and STG Contracting proposed DYNAES’s patented solution, which was showcased at Dubai’s COP28, to the emirate’s civil aviation authorities as a forward-thinking energy-saving measure.

The DYNAES system optimises the refrigerant-oil mixture in thermodynamic systems using a two-part component installed before and after the condenser. It enhances cooling performance without increasing compressor energy consumption or requiring extra electronic controls.

“Aged Infrastructure Can Still Lead”

“Sheikh Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Head of the Department of Civil Aviation in Ras Al Khaimah and Chairman of RAK Airport’s Board, commented, “RAK Airport joined already 2023 the Retrofit Energy Program of the Municipality and now showcases even with new technologies how aged infrastructure can level the path for sustainability.”

The system, developed with institutions such as Mines Paris PSL, TÜV, and CNRS, brings both immediate and long-term advantages in terms of reliability, maintainability, and energy savings, particularly under high-demand conditions.

A Scalable Climate Solution

Professor Assaad Zoughaib of Mines Paris PSL hailed DYNAES’s innovation as a “major scientific breakthrough in thermodynamics.”

The technology has the potential to reduce global CO₂ emissions by up to 7% if widely adopted, which is equivalent to the combined footprint of the global internet and aviation sectors.

Backed by Global Expertise

The rollout at RAK Airport is supported by Airchal, a veteran in air handling systems with over 60 years of experience, and Takyeef Factory, with production facilities in France and Abu Dhabi. This partnership strengthens the regional deployment and scaling of DYNAES across the Middle East.

With this initiative, RAK Airport reinforces its commitment to green infrastructure and operational excellence, while highlighting the role of retrofitted legacy systems in shaping a more sustainable aviation future.
