Mozambique, Zambia Sign Power Transmission MoU

Zambia’s state power utility ZESCO and its Mozambican counterpart Electricidade De Moçambique (EDM) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the development of a cross-border power transmission project.
The Mozambique-Zambia Interconnector Project involves the construction of 375 km of 400kV transmission lines, linking Matambo in Mozambique’s Tete Province to Chitapa in Eastern Zambia . With a total investment of $411.5 million, the project will boost power transmission capacity across the broader Southern African Power Pool, a regional electricity network.
“This MoU underscores our shared commitment to energy sufficiency and security for our countries and region as a foundation for sustainable growth. As we seek to further integrate our markets and increase trade within the Southern African Development Community, electricity must be core to that integration and cooperation,” stated Justin Loongo, Managing Director, ZESCO.
