Morocco aims for 80m airport capacity by 2030

By: AGBI

The move is part of a significant tourism drive as Morocco prepares to co-host the 2030 Fifa World Cup, along with with Spain and Portugal, Morocco World News reported, quoting the prime minister Aziz Akhannouch.

The target will be achieved by expanding Casablanca’s Mohammed V International Airport, Marrakech and Agadir. Since 1999, the number of airports has increased from 15 to 25.

Last year Morocco received more than 27 million passengers, surpassing pre-pandemic levels. By the end of September, air traffic hit 24.3 million passengers, an annual increase of 20 percent.

Fatim-Zahra Ammor, Morocco’s minister of tourism, said recently that the country reported a 20 percent year-on-year increase in tourists to the end of November, or close to 16 million visitors.

The government has set a target of 17.5 million annual visitors by 2026, rising to 26 million by 2030.
