Marula Mining Forges Research, Academic Partnerships in Kenya

By: East African mining news

Marula Mining PLC is advancing its strategic presence in Kenya, announcing key partnerships with the Geological Society of Kenya (GSK) and Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture & Technology (JKUAT). The Africa-focused mining firm is seeking to integrate itself into the country’s academic and professional landscape, signaling a long-term commitment to developing its operations beyond traditional extraction.

The company’s five-year research agreement with JKUAT establishes a framework for collaborative studies in mining, mineral processing, and value addition. This partnership is designed to leverage the university’s technical expertise while allowing Marula to explore innovative ways to maximize the value of Kenya’s mineral resources. Marula CEO Jason Brewer highlighted the company’s ambition to produce high-value, refined critical metals for the electric vehicle and energy transition sectors, positioning the JKUAT partnership as a key step toward making Kenya a leader in mineral research.

Concurrently, Marula has signed a one-year memorandum of understanding with the GSK. As a corporate member, Marula will gain access to the society’s network of expert consultants, who will provide technical support in areas like exploration, environmental compliance, and project evaluation. The agreement is intended to bolster both organizations’ profiles within Kenya’s mining sector and broader business community.

These deals arrive as Marula’s shares remain suspended from trading on the Aquis Stock Exchange since July 1, underscoring the company’s focus on building its operational foundation in Kenya. The partnerships with JKUAT and GSK represent a strategic move to secure academic and technical resources as Marula pursues its long-term growth objectives in the critical metals space.
