Grindex Submersible Dewatering Pumps Gain Traction in Central Africa's Copperbelt
Grindex submersible dewatering pumps are seeing increased adoption by mining operations in Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), where reliable water management is critical for deep-level mining. The pumps are valued for their durability and high performance in challenging underground conditions characterized by significant water ingress.
According to Jordan Marsh, Managing Director of Integrated Pump Technology—the official distributor of Grindex pumps in Southern Africa—the brand has built a solid reputation over the past decade in the region's most demanding dewatering applications. He anticipates that demand will continue to grow as mining operations extend to greater depths, requiring even more robust pumping solutions.
“Dewatering in deep underground mines demands pumps that can handle high flow rates and high heads, while maintaining absolute reliability in extreme conditions,” stated Marsh. “Grindex pumps have proven their ability to perform consistently in these environments, making them a trusted choice for copper mines in the region.”
Recent Orders and Technical Specifications
Recent orders, facilitated through Integrated Pump Technology’s distributor partner in the DRC, were placed by a major copper mine and included a range of Grindex submersible pumps with power ratings from 5.5 kW to 90 kW. The order comprised Grindex N series pumps, capable of handling flow rates from 20 to 100 litres per second, and Grindex H series pumps, which can pump to heads of up to 180 metres.
This specific mining operation has relied on Grindex submersible pumps for its dewatering needs since 2022, reporting consistently outstanding performance. Marsh attributes the continued preference for the brand to the pumps' rugged construction and high efficiency, which are critical for maintaining optimal production levels and ensuring personnel safety in waterlogged underground areas.
Ongoing Support and Future Outlook
To support its growing client base, Integrated Pump Technology regularly deploys teams to assess dewatering applications and ensure the correct pump solutions are implemented. The company also provides technical support and guarantees spare parts availability through its local distributors to minimize operational downtime.
“As mines go deeper, dewatering becomes an increasingly complex challenge. With Grindex submersible pumps, our customers have a reliable and cost-effective solution that is built to withstand the harshest mining conditions,” Marsh concluded.
