Gridworks Secures $5M DFC Grant for Mozambique Transmission Project

By: Energy capital & power

Energy firm Gridworks has secured a $5 million grant from the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) to support the Chimuara–Nacala transmission line in Mozambique.

The grant will enable Gridworks to advance key technical, legal and environmental processes required to achieve financial close.

“Chimuara-Nacala transmission line is a crucial project connecting the central and northern regions of Mozambique with a high voltage transmission spine. It will create economic opportunities and support the government’s ambition of universal electricity access,” stated Chris Flavin, Interim CEO, Gridworks.

The funding marks the DFC’s first development grant for a transmission infrastructure project in Africa. The project also received financial support from the International Finance Corporation in July 2025.
