GenVision, Tatanga Energy and AMDG Energy to develop 300 MW solar project plus BESS in Zambia’s Copperbelt
GenVision, Tatanga Energy and AMDG Energy have signed an agreement to jointly develop a 300-megawatt (MW) solar photovoltaic power project with up to 800 megawatt hours (MWh) of battery storage in Zambia’s Copperbelt region.
Located about 10 kilometres north of Kitwe, the initiative represents one of the largest renewable energy developments ever undertaken in the country.
GenVision, a joint venture between commodities group Glencore and renewable energy developer Nvision, will play a central role in delivering the project through its integrated independent power producer model. The company manages the full project lifecycle—from development and engineering through financing, construction and operations—enabling faster delivery and lower-cost clean power solutions across Africa.
Tatanga Energy brings extensive experience in renewable energy development and operations across sub-Saharan Africa, having been involved in projects such as the Sable Solar PV Park and Zimbabwe’s largest wind power development. Its team combines technical, financial and execution expertise supported by a network of regional and international advisors.
AMDG Energy joins the partnership in line with the Zambian government’s call for accelerated investment in renewable energy to address the country’s current power deficit. The company has focused on developing large-scale solar and wind projects aimed at advancing the region’s transition to sustainable energy through its professional network and proven delivery capabilities.
The 300 MW plus 800 MWh Northern Power Project is expected to significantly enhance Zambia’s electricity supply, supporting industrial growth and improving grid stability in the Copperbelt—one of the nation’s most vital economic zones. Once operational, the project will provide affordable, clean energy to help reduce the national power shortfall and contribute to broader economic diversification.
Further announcements will be made as the project advances through design, permitting and financing stages.
