GCCIA and Sohar International Bank Sign $500m Deal for Oman-UAE Power Link

The Gulf Cooperation Council Interconnection Authority (GCCIA) has signed a $500 million interim financing agreement with Sohar International Bank to advance a landmark electricity interconnection project between the United Arab Emirates and Oman, Emirates News Agency reported.
The project will see the construction of a 400-kilovolt double-circuit transmission line linking the GCCIA-owned Al-Sila station in the UAE with a new Ibri station in Oman. Spanning 530 kilometres, the line is designed to boost regional energy security and enable greater electricity trade and exchange among GCC member states.
Eng. Mohsen bin Hamad Al-Hadhrami, Chairman of the GCCIA Board of Directors, said, according to WAM, the project marks a “qualitative leap” in the integration of electricity networks across the Gulf. He added that it will strengthen Oman’s role as a pivotal hub for energy exchange in the region.
The initiative reflects the Gulf states’ broader strategy to deepen economic and infrastructure integration, while ensuring a secure and reliable energy supply across the bloc.
