Federal Express Corporation (FedEx) has completed its transition to a direct-serve presence in Saudi Arabia, marking a significant milestone in its regional growth strategy. The move includes the launch of the company’s first dedicated flight into the Kingdom, plans for a new hub at King Salman International Airport in Riyadh, and the introduction of FedEx Logistics freight forwarding services.

These developments align with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 ambitions to diversify the economy, enhance global trade integration, and establish the Kingdom as a leading logistics hub.

Ceremony marks milestone

The announcement was celebrated at a ceremony in Diriyah, attended by H.E. Eng. Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, Minister of Transport and Logistics Services; H.E. Dr. Rumaih bin Mohammed Al-Rumaih, Vice Minister of Transport and Logistics Services; and FedEx executives Raj Subramaniam, Richard Smith, and Kami Viswanathan, alongside other senior leaders.

His Excellency Al-Jasser said, “FedEx’s strengthened presence reflects the Kingdom’s growing appeal as a premier destination for logistics and global investment.”

“Saudi Arabia’s rising influence as a key global logistics hub and a strategic gateway for trade and transport services is clear.”

Enhancing connectivity and trade routes

FedEx executives highlighted the Kingdom’s role in global commerce. Richard Smith, COO International and CEO of the Airline at FedEx, said, “Our recent investments underscore Saudi Arabia’s role as a vital link in our global network, connecting major economies across Asia, Europe, and the Americas.”

The company’s new nonstop flight service establishes direct air links between the United States, Europe, and Saudi Arabia, improving transit times and strengthening trade flows.”

“In addition, FedEx will develop a regional hub in Riyadh to connect the Kingdom with markets in Bahrain, Kuwait, and Qatar.

Expanding freight forwarding services

FedEx has also introduced its FedEx Logistics division in Saudi Arabia, offering freight forwarding services across air, road, and ocean freight, as well as customs brokerage and transit cargo support.

These services are designed to strengthen supply chain resilience and boost connectivity with key markets across the GCC, South Asia, and Africa.

Kami Viswanathan, president of FedEx Middle East, Indian Subcontinent and Africa, said, “Our direct-serve operations in Saudi Arabia represent a pivotal step in our regional growth strategy to boost connectivity and service.”

“By combining modern infrastructure, digital innovation, and integrated solutions, we are facilitating seamless trade and helping businesses in Saudi Arabia and across the region compete globally.”

Supporting Vision 2030 goals

FedEx now manages end-to-end shipping operations in Saudi Arabia, including pickup, delivery, and customs clearance, supported by four gateways and four stations.

These are complemented by digital tools that enhance supply chain efficiency.

With Saudi Arabia recording a US$16.8 billion trade surplus in Q1 2025, up 52% from the previous quarter, demand for advanced logistics infrastructure is growing. FedEx’s expansion supports this momentum while reinforcing the Kingdom’s Vision.
