A consultant in the energy sector in Zambia with more than 20 years experience, specialising in regulatory frameworks and policy analysis, Chikwanda has been doing a lot of work on moving the country towards SDG7, energy access for all by 2030.

“The traditional authorities at continental level have got a forum where for they want to participate in the economic development and emancipation of the continent and to execute their mandate. They have got specialised experts who anchor them, who scaffold how they must be navigating their engagements.

“I anchor the energy and climate portfolio for them,” explained Chikwanda.

He has attended many a conference, both at home, in the region and overseas, and says the C&I Energy+Storage Summit Zambia’s conference programming is configured in a manner he hasn’t seen before.

“It is more practical, pushing practical solutions and also advancing BESS, energy storage, where you know most of the conferences that we have had very barely contributed or showcased the energy storage perspective.

“The setup –  the engagement of the roundtables, it is in a manner that we have not seen before, at least where I have been. It is bringing people that matter when it comes to BESS, battery energy storage solutions and the people that would want to use them, and the policy makers and also companies that are already existing in this sector, and case studies.”

Chikwanda talks about energy poverty, as well as the effects of drought and by extension climate change on the energy sector as well as people of Zambia, the importance of diversification of the energy mix and brings it back to creating energy access for all.
