Atlas Air and Etihad Cargo forge long-term freighter partnership

Atlas Air has signed a new long-term partnership with Etihad Cargo. The agreement will see Atlas Air provide dedicated freighter capacity through the operation of a newly delivered Boeing 777 freighter, further strengthening the two companies’ longstanding collaboration.
The newly delivered 777F began operations in August, connecting Hong Kong, Abu Dhabi, and Madrid, three strategic markets that underscore Etihad Cargo’s role as a key bridge between Asia, the Middle East, and Europe.
Expanding global reach
The partnership comes as demand continues to rise for general air freight, e-commerce, pharmaceuticals, automotive parts, and perishables across these trade lanes.
Etihad Cargo has been expanding both its passenger and freighter capacity, with this agreement reinforcing its commitment to scaling alongside market growth.
By aligning passenger network expansion with dedicated freighter operations, the airline aims to deliver seamless end-to-end connectivity for customers while maintaining the agility required in high-volume markets.
Strategic partnership roots
The new agreement builds on more than a decade of collaboration between Atlas Air and Etihad Cargo.
Atlas Air first began operating flights for Etihad in 2012 and has since become a trusted partner in supporting the UAE carrier’s evolving capacity needs.
Michael Steen, Chief Executive Officer of Atlas Air Worldwide, highlighted the importance of the renewed partnership, “We are pleased to again partner with Etihad Cargo, one of the industry’s most respected carriers. This partnership reflects our strong value proposition and the trust we’ve built with customers over time. With our industry-leading fleet of widebody freighters and deep operating expertise, Atlas Air is proud to be a trusted partner of choice.”
Global growth strategy
From Etihad Cargo’s perspective, the agreement is central to its global growth strategy.
Stanislas Brun, Chief Cargo Officer at Etihad Airways, said, “Etihad Cargo’s expanded collaboration with Atlas Air represents a strategic step in scaling capacity and extending our global reach. This additional capacity further enhances the reliability and agility of our services, ensuring the delivery of seamless and efficient cargo solutions worldwide.”
The Boeing 777 freighter is the world’s largest and longest-range twin-engine cargo aircraft, capable of carrying more than 100 tons. Its combination of payload, fuel efficiency, and reliability makes it a cornerstone for global carriers seeking sustainable solutions. For Etihad Cargo, the addition of the 777F aligns with its wider sustainability commitments while expanding its ability to serve fast-growing sectors with high service expectations.
