A first-of-its-kind battery-swapping station for electric motorbikes has opened in Abu Dhabi, pushing toward sustainable transport one battery swap at a time.

ADNOC and Drive Terra Launch Abu Dhabi's First E-Bike Battery Swap Station

ADNOC Distribution has partnered with Drive Terra to launch Abu Dhabi's first battery-swapping station for electric motorbikes. Located at one of ADNOC's flagship service stations, this facility enables riders to exchange depleted batteries for fully charged ones in seconds, significantly reducing vehicle downtime and supporting more efficient, sustainable last-mile delivery operations.

Strategic Infrastructure Partnership

The collaboration leverages ADNOC Distribution's extensive network of service stations to host Drive Terra's swapping technology, providing high-visibility locations for this clean mobility solution. Husam Zammar, Founder of Drive Terra, emphasized that this expansion into Abu Dhabi represents a pivotal step in building future-ready electric mobility infrastructure across the UAE, utilizing ADNOC's established platform to accelerate clean mobility adoption in the capital.

Supporting UAE's Sustainability Goals

This initiative directly supports Abu Dhabi Mobility's target of having 50% electric vehicles by 2040 and contributes to the UAE's broader carbon neutrality goal by 2050. The battery-swapping technology addresses key barriers to electric vehicle adoption by eliminating long charging times, allowing riders to complete swaps in under a minute. This enables continuous operations and higher productivity for delivery fleets while reducing congestion and emissions in the energy-intensive last-mile logistics sector.

Future Expansion Potential

The Abu Dhabi installation is expected to be the first of several across the capital and beyond. By operating within the ADNOC Distribution network, Drive Terra is well-positioned to scale its model nationwide, supporting logistics operators, delivery services, and small businesses seeking cost-effective and environmentally responsible transport solutions. This partnership also signals a strategic evolution in how traditional energy sectors are approaching transport decarbonization, bridging conventional fuel services with emerging e-mobility ecosystems.
