Mozambique's ruling party candidate, Daniel Chapo, is expected to win the upcoming elections and continue relying on Rwanda's military and European support to secure gas fields in the violence-stricken Cabo Delgado region. The Rwandan forces, brought in by current President Nyusi in 2021, are tasked with protecting LNG projects by Total Energies and ExxonMobil, which have been halted due to insecurity.
