Toronto – With over 140 global destinations, Ethiopian Airlines this week made three major announcements regarding weekly flight frequency increases to two major destinations in Europe and one in Africa.

Rome

The Airlines is now offering more flight schedules to and from Rome. Three more flight schedules are added starting next month.

“Ethiopian Airlines adds three weekly midday flights to Rome and morning departures back to Addis effective December 1, 2024, for a seamless journey between Africa and Italy,” it said in a brief social media update.

Athens

Similarly, Athens is also getting three more flight schedules. This one commences on December 3, 2024. 

“Exciting news! Ethiopian Airlines is introducing three additional weekly midday flights to Athens and morning departures back to Addis, enhancing better connections between Africa and the historic capital of Greece, beginning December 3, 2024,” The airlines announced on Wednesday.  

Kigali

Rwandan capital Kigali is also in the list of destinations that got additional flight schedules.  The number  of weekly  flights to and from Kigali rose to 21.  This schedule will be operational as of December 1.

It is unclear if the Ethiopian Airlines decision is a response to growing demands from the destinations that got additional flight schedules starting this week.

Growing number of passengers

According to a report by Reuters, the Ethiopian Airlines carried 17 million passengers in the 2023/2024 fiscal year.

Ethiopian Airlines carried 17 million passengers in the 2023/2024 financial year, and expects to carry 20 million passengers by the end of this fiscal year.

Bole International Airport will soon have a capacity to serve over 25 million passengers once the expansion project  is completed.

Ethiopian has also a new maga airport project in Debre Zeit, (Bishoftu). When completed, it will be one of the biggest airports with a capacity to serve over 100 million passengers per year.
