On September 23, 2025, an arbitral tribunal mandated Niger to halt uranium sales from the Somaïr mine amid a dispute with Orano, which holds a 63% stake. The ruling involved the release of an Orano representative and highlighted legal and human rights issues. Niger's uranium production dropped significantly from 2,020 to 962 tons between 2022 and 2024 due to nationalization and export blockades. Despite uranium exports being valued at $204 million in 2023, nationalization raises concerns over investor confidence and fiscal stability.
