The European Commission and South Africa have secured a €15.5 billion package, primarily from European sources and private investors, to fund clean energy projects in Africa. Supported by Global Citizen and the International Energy Agency, the initiative aims to expand electricity access. Key objectives include building 26.8 GW of renewable capacity and connecting 17.5 million new consumers to the grid.
