QatarEnergy, EGAS Partner on LNG Supply to Meet Energy Needs
As electricity demand and industrial growth surge across Egypt, a reliable natural gas supply has become a critical enabler for utilities and power generation.
In this context, QatarEnergy has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources to strengthen cooperation in the energy sector, with a focus on LNG supply.
The agreement was signed in Doha by Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs and QatarEnergy CEO, and Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi. The MoU builds on existing collaborations and aims to secure additional LNG supplies to support Egypt’s expanding energy infrastructure.
Under the agreement, QatarEnergy and the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) have agreed to deliver up to 24 LNG cargoes for summer 2026, with discussions already underway for longer-term LNG contracts to meet the country’s growing power and industrial energy needs.
Speaking at the signing, Al-Kaabi said the MoU reinforces bilateral ties and provides a framework to support Egypt’s utilities sector with a reliable, long-term LNG supply as the country expands its electricity and industrial capacity.
This agreement highlights the importance of regional partnerships in ensuring energy security and enabling the continued growth of power generation and industrial utilities across the Middle East and North Africa.
