Nigeria’s Sahara Group Signs 20-Year LNG Deal with Mexico

By: Energy capital & power

Nigerian energy conglomerate Sahara Group has signed a 20-year Sales and Purchase Agreement with Mexico’s Amigo LNG for the annual supply of 0.6 million tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG), with deliveries set to begin in the third quarter of 2028.

The LNG will be sourced from Amigo LNG’s upcoming export facility in Guayamas, Mexico, which is currently under development. The 7.8 million tons per annum (mtpa) terminal will feature two trains, each with a capacity of 3.9 mtpa.

Under the agreement, Sahara Group will channel the LNG volumes to high-growth markets across the Asia-Pacific region and Latin America, aligning with its broader strategy to enhance global energy access and security.

The deal marks a significant step for Sahara Group in expanding its LNG portfolio while supporting Amigo LNG’s ambitions to position Mexico as a competitive exporter in the global LNG landscape.
