Komatsu & Mine Master deliver South African first automated LP boom rig

Komatsu Underground Hardrock South Africa together with its partner, Mine Master, recently delivered and commissioned what it says is the first automated low-profile single boom drill rig – the FLP1410 – ADS (Automated Drilling System) – in South Africa.
John du Plessis, Komatsu Underground South Africa Sales Manager stated: “This is groundbreaking, historical and we are super proud of team who worked endlessly behind the scenes to ensure the successful integration of this technology & solution.”
He then outlined why it is such a significant development – as stated it is the first ever low-profile automated drill rig introduced into the South African mining market, which he says revolutionises underground low-profile drilling possibilities and practices.
The rig increases safety by reducing the operator’s exposure within the danger zone. Safety remains pivotal. There is optional supervision by one operator over more than one machine. In performance it offers better advancement and better geometry of the face, floor, roof and side walls. Plus there is no geological marking required on the face due to build-in guide system linked to the drilling plan
In addition to the ADS system, Mine Master has also introduced a Feeder Guidance System (FGS) on its low profile FLP1410 drill rig. This technology specifically supports the operator by ensuring precise manual drilling according to the drill pattern thus, better geometry and advancement.
