IEA Unveils Clean Cooking Roadmap for Africa by 2040

The International Energy Agency (IEA) has released a new report outlining a pathway to achieve universal access to clean cooking across sub-Saharan Africa by 2040.
The report – Universal Access to Clean Cooking in Africa – proposes reaching 80 million people per year through solutions such as LPG, electricity, bioethanol and advanced biomass stoves.
“The IEA has been at the forefront on the clean cooking issue for over two decades, and 2025 can be a turning point for Africa,” stated Fatih Birol, Executive Director of the IEA. “This new IEA report provides a clear, data-driven roadmap for every household across Africa to gain access.”
According to the IEA, the plan requires $37 billion in cumulative investment by 2040 and could yield significant outcomes, including 4.7 million avoided premature deaths, 460,000 new jobs and 540 million tons of annual emissions reductions.
