Grid Africa, CEGN enter battery partnership to boost solar in Zambia

Grid Africa and Shenzhen CEGN (CEGN) have entered into a strategic partnership to deploy at least 50 MWh of battery energy storage projects in Zambia, seeking to increase the use of solar power beyond daylight hours.
The collaboration will pool Grid Africa's local expertise and CEGN's technical capabilities to roll out both behind-the-meter systems and large grid-scale facilities. The units will have a capacity ranging from 200 kWh to up to 5 MWh.
The projects will be delivered to both public and private sectors to fill the gap between intermittent renewable energy generation and energy demand and stabilise grid performance amid lower hydroelectric output due to the regional drought.
Grid Africa and CEGN already expressed plans to expand the geographic scope of the partnership in the future.
