Five African Nations Pledge $16M to African Development Fund

The Gambia, Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Sudan have collectively pledged $16 million to the African Development Fund (ADF) – the concessional window of pan-African financial institution the African Development Bank (AfDB).
The pledges were formalized on June 2 by representatives from the five countries, including Sheku Bangura, Minister of Finance of Sierra Leone; Rufus Darkortey, Executive Director at the AfDB; Cassiel Ato Forson, Minister of Finance of Ghana; and Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan, Minister of Finance and Development Planning of Liberia.
“This is a powerful message that Africa is not just a recipient but a partner in shaping its own future,” Darkortey stated.
The new commitments represent a 220% increase from the group’s previous collective contribution. Ghana led with a $5 million pledge, followed by Sudan, Liberia and Sierra Leone with $3 million each, and The Gambia with $2 million.
The funding will support the ADF’s upcoming replenishment cycle and expands the number of African donor countries from eight to 13.
