Egypt to Supply Gas, Petroleum to Syria for Electricity and Energy Needs
Egypt will export natural gas and petroleum products to Syria following the signing of two memoranda of understanding (MoUs) by the countries’ petroleum ministries, the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources announced on Monday.
According to the Emirates News Agency, one of the agreements covers the supply of natural gas to Syria for electricity generation, utilising Egypt’s existing infrastructure, including floating regasification units and gas transmission networks.
The second MoU addresses Syria’s demand for petroleum products, while also opening discussions on potential collaboration to rehabilitate Syria’s gas and petroleum infrastructure with Egyptian technical support.
The ministry described the agreements as part of Egypt’s broader strategy to strengthen its position as a regional energy hub. They come after recent accords with Lebanon and Cyprus aimed at expanding gas exports and integrating regional energy networks.
