EACOP Reaches 60% Completion

By: Energy capital & power

The 1,443-km East African Crude Oil Pipeline – designed to transport crude oil from Uganda to Tanzania – has reached 60% completion.

According to Tanzania’s Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA), construction of the pipeline has resulted in the creation of over 6,000 jobs, with 70% of the workforce coming from local communities.

“EWURA’s role extends beyond technical oversight – we are also committed to ensuring Tanzanians benefit through job creation, skills development and economic opportunities,” stated Ngosi Mwihava, Chair of EWURA’s Energy Committee.

The heated pipeline will transport up to 246,000 barrels of crude oil per day from Uganda’s Lake Albert oilfields to the Port of Tanga in Tanzania and includes fiber-optic infrastructure to support digital connectivity in remote areas.

The project is backed by a consortium of international and national oil companies including TotalEnergies (62%), the Uganda National Oil Company (15%), the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (15%) and the China National Offshore Oil Corporation (8%).
