Deep Ocean and Jana Marine enter Saudi Arabia subsea partnership

By: Energy - pedia news

The intended venture, to be named JADE Subsea Services, will offer integrated subsea solutions to the offshore energy industry in the Middle East.

The joint venture plans to enter into a five-year charter agreement with Jana Marine for a newbuild DP2 hybrid diving support vessel (DSV) named Jana 201. This vessel will be capable of performing subsea construction, IMR (inspection, maintenance, and repair), and dive support activities. JADE Subsea Services will leverage DeepOcean’s specialist subsea engineering and project management services to plan and execute subsea projects and operations.

The CEO of DeepOcean, Øyvind Mikaelsen, commented on the partnership, stating that Jana Marine brings a newbuild vessel, marine expertise, and deep local knowledge to the partnership. He noted that DeepOcean contributes its subsea services capabilities, technology, and specialist engineering. Mikaelsen expressed that the partnership is poised to offer the offshore oil and gas industry in the Middle East a highly competitive and fully integrated subsea services solution, highlighting Jana Marine's extensive operating track record and alignment with Saudi Arabia’s localization program.

This initiative marks a continued expansion of DeepOcean's presence in the Middle East. The company entered the region earlier in the year through the acquisition of subsea service player Shelf Subsea, which has a longstanding presence in Saudi Arabia. DeepOcean’s vessel Oriental Dragon is currently operating in Saudi waters, and the company has also established an office in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

DeepOcean offers a range of services including engineering and project management for subsea construction and installation, subsea survey and positioning, IMR services, and the removal and recycling of subsea assets.

Jana Marine provides marine offshore services in the Arabian Gulf region and beyond, owning and operating a fleet of 35 offshore support vessels. The newbuild subsea vessel will be an addition to this fleet. The company maintains a strong local presence with approximately 1,800 employees, delivering specialized services such as offshore hook-ups, upgrades, modifications, installations, fabrication, and maintenance.

The CEO of Jana Marine, Mohammad AlSubaie, outlined the company's strategy to continue expanding its fleet for topside and subsea inspections, repair, and maintenance of offshore oil and gas installations. He stated that Jana Marine will provide purpose-built offshore support vessels and equipment, while DeepOcean contributes its globally renowned specialist subsea competence. AlSubaie confirmed they look forward to jointly offering these services in the Middle East through the joint venture partnership.

The primary operating platform for JADE Subsea Services will be the Jana 201, a 98-meter newbuild hybrid-powered DP2 subsea vessel currently under construction in China. The vessel will be equipped with a 12-man saturation diving system, two air diving spreads, a light work class ROV, and a 100-tonne crane. It will feature hybrid power from batteries that can operate standalone or in conjunction with its gensets and will have accommodation for up to 120 personnel.

Built to meet the specifications of oil majors in the Arabian Gulf, the Jana 201 is scheduled for delivery in the third quarter of 2026. It is designed to provide modern ROV and diving capabilities, ample deck space, and accommodation for project teams to meet regional client requirements.
