DRC, Japan’s Solafune Partner to Advance Satellite Mining Data

The National Geological Service of Congo (SGNC) and Japanese technology firm Solafune have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on using satellite data and AI to advance the mining sector in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
Signed on July 18, the MoU establishes a framework for cooperation to improve mineral resource management through AI-powered analysis of geospatial data, enhancing the understanding of the DRC’s subsurface resources. Solafune will assist SGNC in leveraging AI tools for this purpose.
The partnership also includes training and technical capacity building for Congolese specialists, with a focus on integrating digital technologies into mining governance.
The agreement forms part of the Ministry of Mines’ ongoing efforts to adopt advanced technologies in geological research and oversight. It also supports broader goals of improving resource transparency and fostering data-driven decision-making within the extractive sector.
