Chinese Group Kibing Presents Major Solar Glass Investment Project in Algeria

A delegation of the Chinese group Kibing presented on Tuesday, at the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Renewable Energies, an investment project to produce solar glass in Algeria, the ministry said in a press release.
The Chinese delegation, led by the group’s deputy director general, Eric Wong Kuan, was received by the State Secretary to the minister of Energy, in charge of Renewable Energy, Noureddine Yassaa, and the State Secretary to the minister of Energy, in charge of Mines, Karima Tafer, in the presence of the ministry’s executives.
The project provides for the construction of solar glass, with a capacity of 1.53 million tons per year, and an ultra-pure silica sand processing and development facility, with a capacity of 1.08 million tons a year.
During the presentation, the Chinese delegation said that the project will help create 3,000 direct jobs, with a local integration rate reaching 90%, said the source.
The meeting provided an opportunity to examine the project’s potential for developing local natural resources, particularly silica sand, and establishing an integrated solar energy production chain that could strengthen Algeria’s position as a regional renewable energy hub in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, said the source.
In this regard, Yassaa highlighted the Algerian government’s commitment to fostering productive partnerships with leading international companies, noting that the Algerian market presents promising investment opportunities in the hydrocarbons, clean energy, and mining sectors.
He underlined the comprehensive reforms implemented to enhance Algeria’s investment climate and the guarantees provided to investors, emphasizing the special emphasis placed by Algeria on developing major strategic projects in exploration, production, and industrial processing, in line with energy transition priorities and economic diversification goals.
For her part, Tafer detailed the procedures and mechanisms available in Algeria for developing national mineral resources under current legislation.
Following the meeting, both parties agreed to continue consultations to explore ways and means of giving concrete expression to this shared vision through projects and partnerships that can support solar glass industry development and advance Algeria’s energy transition process.
