Beyond borders Canada, Australia bet South African

By: Mining review Africa

A South African manufacturer, Condra, has received multiple orders from consulting firms in Canada and Australia to produce specialized cranes and hoists for mine expansion projects across Africa. The equipment, which is being manufactured at Condra's factory in Germiston, Johannesburg, is destined for operations in Sierra Leone, Tanzania, and Namibia. Specific client and mine names remain confidential due to non-disclosure agreements.

The orders encompass a range of equipment for workshop and maintenance use, with capacities from two to eighteen tons. The shipments are tailored to each country's needs:

Sierra Leone will receive a portal crane, a long-reach jib crane, and three single-girder overhead cranes.

Tanzania's order includes portal, jib, single-girder, and double-girder cranes.

Namibia will be supplied with two portal cranes, jib cranes, single and double-girder cranes, six Titan hoists (some designed for curved tracks), and fifteen chain hoists.

A company spokesman emphasized that Condra worked closely with the consultants to ensure competitive pricing and the robust reliability required for harsh mining environments, promising a lower overall lifetime cost than rival firms. All equipment will undergo rigorous inspection and testing to meet international standards.

Manufacturing is currently underway, with staggered deliveries by road and container shipping scheduled from late 2025 through mid-2026. Condra technicians will manage installation in Sierra Leone, while local agents will oversee commissioning in Tanzania and Namibia.
