Algeria, Slovenia Extend Gas Supply Deal

Algeria’s national oil company Sonatrach has signed an agreement with Slovenian natural gas supplier Geoplin to extend the supply of natural gas from Algeria to Slovenia by two years.
For the period 2026-2027, natural gas from Algeria to Slovenia will be transported via the Trans-Mediterranean gas pipeline linking Algeria to Italy via Tunisia. The 3,800-km pipeline network boasts a capacity of 33.5 billion cubic meters per annum and features onward connections to Slovenia and Central Europe.
The agreement was signed this week in Ljubljana during a ceremony attended by Algeria’s President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob and includes a contract for the uninterrupted sale and purchase of natural gas.
An initial three-year supply deal – for the period January 1, 2023, to December 31, 2025 – was signed between the two countries in 2022. Under the deal, Algeria started supplying 300 million m3 of natural gas per year, increasing its export volume to 500 million m3 in 2024.
