Algeria Aims to Become Key Player in Green Energy with Lithium Mining

ALGIERS – Mohamed Arkab, Algerian Minister of State and Minister of Energy, Mines, and Renewable Energy, announced that lithium mining will position Algeria as a key player in the green energy sector and strengthen its role in the global energy value chain.
During a workshop on the development of lithium mining, Arkab emphasized the strategic importance of lithium, a key component in batteries, electric vehicles, and energy storage systems. He stated that focusing on strategic minerals like lithium is crucial to enhancing Algeria’s position in green technology. Arkab noted that this initiative aligns with the ambitious vision of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to diversify the economy by leveraging the country’s strategic resources.
The workshop, attended by experts, including international lithium expert Pr. Karim Zaghib, aimed to highlight lithium’s potential as a valuable resource and explore strategies to integrate it into Algeria’s economic and industrial growth.
