On September 22, 2025, the Africa Minerals Strategy Group (AMSG) will host its 2nd High-Level Roundtable on Critical Minerals Development in Africa. The event, a side event to the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, will bring together African Heads of State, ministerial representatives, and global private sector leaders to forge partnerships aimed at redefining Africa’s role in the energy transition.

The roundtable, themed “Forging a Common African Voice, Advancing Global Partnerships,” is a follow-up to an inaugural gathering in 2024. The upcoming event is designed to deepen commitments to ensuring Africa’s mineral wealth directly benefits its people through transparent and responsible global partnerships.

“Africa’s critical minerals are not just a resource; they are the foundation of global sustainable development and a catalyst for our continent’s industrialization,” stated AMSG Secretary-General H.E. Moses Micheal Engadu.

The event is convened by Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, alongside AMSG leadership, including Chairman Dr. Oladele Henry Alake, Honourable Minister of Solid Minerals Development of Nigeria. The audience will include ministerial representatives from AMSG member states, multilateral institutions, and executives from global mining, tech, traceability, and logistics firms.

Expected Outcomes

The roundtable will feature three strategic rounds of discussion:

  • Round 1: Forging a Common African Voice. Leaders will align policies on value addition, minerals security, and strategic autonomy to strengthen the continent’s negotiating power.
  • Round 2: Mobilizing Capital and Building Capability. This session will explore innovative financing models, including sovereign, blended, and tokenized finance.
  • Round 3: Building Trust Through Technology and Transparency. Participants will discuss innovations like Traceability Platforms to promote ethical trade and build trust with global buyers and financiers.

About the Africa Minerals Strategy Group

Established in January 2024 by African Ministers of Mining, the AMSG has rapidly become Africa’s principal inter-governmental platform for coordinating critical minerals policy and global engagement. Its mission is to ensure Africa reclaims agency over its mineral wealth and plays a leading role in the global mineral economy and the energy transition.
