Chinese solar company JA Solar, along with multinational partners, has broken ground on a $210 million integrated PV manufacturing base in Egypt’s Suez Canal Economic Zone. The project will produce 2GW of solar cells, 2GW of modules, and 1GWh of energy storage annually, supporting Egypt’s push for renewable energy localization and export growth. This initiative is part of a broader trend of Chinese PV firms expanding in the MENA region, with JA Solar also planning a major facility in Oman. Chinese investments in Egypt’s solar supply chain now exceed $1.5 billion, creating a manufacturing cluster that leverages local resources, policy incentives, and joint-venture models to navigate trade barriers and tap into regional demand....
