Zambia's Chamber of Mines has raised concerns over proposed legislative reforms that could increase state control of the mining sector, calling them a threat to investor rights. The industry group, which includes major producers like First Quantum Minerals and Barrick Gold, warns that these changes could undermine Zambia's goal to quadruple copper production. The government plans to establish a state-owned firm to control at least 30% of future critical mineral production, which the Chamber says may deter investors. The proposed law could also lead to corruption risks by granting excessive discretionary powers to regulators....
