At the West African Mining Host Communities Indaba, leaders and advocates are demanding that communities' free, prior, and informed consent (FPIC) be mandatory before mineral extraction. They warn that the rising demand for "green minerals" must not repeat past injustices of environmental damage, displacement, and violence, as tragically seen in Zamfara State.
