Saudi Ports Authority Launches Shipping Service Connecting Jeddah and Port Sudan to Provide a New Boost in Trade and Tourism

By: Travel and tour world

Saudi Arabia’s Ports Authority, Mawani, has inaugurated its 30th new shipping service in 2025, a direct service linking Jeddah Islamic Port to Port Sudan.

Marsa Ocean Shipping operates the “JSS” service, which provides 1,118 containers’ capacity. This new service is part of Saudi Arabia’s larger strategy to enhance its global logistics network and grow its tourism sector as an integral component of its Vision 2030 goals.

The launch is seen as a significant step in supporting Saudi Arabia’s growing role as a hub for tourism and trade across the Red Sea. The new service is expected to facilitate the movement of goods and make it easier for tourists to visit the region, strengthening connectivity between Asia, Africa, and Europe.

The new shipping service between Jeddah Islamic Port and Port Sudan is expected to create a more seamless experience for tourists. Jeddah is a key gateway to Saudi Arabia, known for its history, coastline, and proximity to Mecca. The route will provide easier access for travelers from Sudan and East Africa, encouraging greater cross-border tourism.

This initiative is part of Mawani’s broader effort to bolster tourism, a central component of Vision 2030, which aims to increase the logistics sector's contribution to GDP. Tourism is projected to contribute 10 percent to the Kingdom’s GDP by 2030.

This service follows other new shipping routes launched in 2025, including the RSX1 service linking Jeddah to Port Sudan, Djibouti, and Jebel Ali, and the BOS service to China, enhancing Saudi Arabia’s connectivity to key tourism destinations.

The expanded maritime network directly supports tourism growth by providing better access to the Kingdom’s cultural, historical, and leisure attractions, aligning with broader infrastructure projects like new hotels and resorts.

The development of new shipping routes complements the Vision 2030 initiative to diversify the Saudi economy and position the Kingdom as a top destination in the Middle East.
